Famous Foodies

As Grandma’s Maud’s CEO, Paul Fregia, Heads off to Oxford, Mississippi we discovered that he will be around a lot of famous foodies. So here’s little bit about a few that caught our eye back here at Grandma Maud’s Headquarters.

The most well known of these famous foodies is Alton Brown. Initially a television as the writer and host of “Good Eats” on the Food Network; Alton Brown is now best known for his work as a host on “Iron Chef”. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the James Beard Award, Peabody Award, and the IACP Cookbook Award. Alton Brown has also been on other Food Network shows shows like, “Next Iron Chef”  and “Food Network Star”.

Next up on our list of famous foodies is Whitney Otawka. She was first introduced to the culinary world at her first kitchen job in French creperie in California. Whitney Otawka eventually worked her way through culinary school ay Le Cordon Bleu- Atlanta. She is best known for her participation in season 9 of “Top Chef”. Since leaving the show she has moved onto become the Executive Chef at Farm 255 in Athens, Georgia.

Brett Martin, the next of our famous foodies, is recognized by most for his work as a food writer. A James Beard Award recipient  for his work with GQ, Brett Martin has worked with multiple publications. His most notable works are published in, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, and Bon Appetite. Currently Brett Martin is working on a book for Penguin Press and continues to contribute to GQ.

The last famous foodie is also a writer, however he is also a filmmaker, named Lolis Eric Elie. Hailing from New Orleans, Lolis Eric Elie has been published in The Oxford American, Gourmet Magazine, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Bon Appetite. He is also the editor of Corn Bread Nation: The Best of Southern Writing and the author of Smokestack Lighting: Adventures in the Heart of Barbecue Country. Recently, Lolis Eric Elie has joined the staff of the HBO series “Treme”.

These are just a few of the famous foodies that are attending the Southern Foodways Alliance Symposium with our CEO, Paul Fregia. We hope that Paul will get the opportunity to meet and learn from these great famous foodies.
